EIS removal process on Mercedes SL R230
When it comes to removing the EIS for a Mercedes SL Class, the process is pretty simple. Only the instrument cluster needs to be removed to access the electronic switch. If your handy, and have a few tools in the toolbox, this job is for you. No need to call a dealership for a lost Mercedes car key, we can read the EIS data and produce a working key fob for your vehicle. Making the process easy to do, without going anywhere except to the mailbox and back.
Removal time: 20 minutes
Tools needed: T20 torx driver, needle nose pliers
Step by step instructions:
Step #1:
You will need to remove the instrument cluster bezel first, pull it out with your hands until the plastic connectors release it and set it aside
Step #2:
Next loosen the 4 T20 torx screws with a driver then the cluster can be removed, disconnect any wire connectors behind it then set it aside
Step #3:
Remove the circular chrome bezel that holds the EIS to the front of the dashboard by rotating it off with needle nose pliers
Step #4:
You should be able to access the EIS now where the cluster used to sit, reach in with your hands and rotate it until it can be pulled up, making sure to remove any electrical connections that connect to it in the process
